A man who spiked treats with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

The accused was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC explained objects including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his suspicions.

She explained the man went on to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police a second time.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
